Senator Lourie, who has served in the South Carolina state legislature for the past eleven years, discussed proposed bills in the 2011 legislative session that would impact the GLBT community and will also present his assessment of the general political climate in South Carolina. Audience questions/discussion followed the senator's presentation.

Bishop Yoos gave an update on recent progress by the national Evangelical Lutheran Church in America on creating welcoming environments for gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered Christians and the progress and challenges in South Carolina. A discussion and opportunity for support and prayers for Bishop Yoos followed.

Rev. Kneece led a discussion on "Denominational Leadership: What's Safe, What's Not." The South Carolina Christian Action Council is the only statewide ecumenical agency--a partnership of 16 denominations--in South Carolina.

Dr. Evans discussed "Resistance to the Church's Stance Against GLBT Acceptance." He encouraged GLBTs to stay in the church, not give up, and continue the struggle, and said, "Resistance that leads to positive change will give the church a deeper understanding of what it means to be church to ALL people."
