Tackling the Clobber Verses: Part 1

  • Kathwood Baptist Church (map)

This past November, we enjoyed an inspiring presentation by Jim Dant, pastor of Greenville First Baptist Church and author. In our followup meeting this month, Pastor Eiwen leads a discussion of one of Jim’s books - This I Know: A Simple Biblical Defense for LGBTQ Christians - exploring the biblical “clobber verses” that are often used to judge LGBTQ persons and issues. At this meeting, we will have a review of the first half of Dant’s book, followed by breakout group discussion.

Pastor Bill Eiwen is well-suited to guide our discussion this month. Bill is a native of Lancaster, PA.  He received a B.A. from Penn State University and a M. Div. from the Lutheran Theological Seminary at Gettysburg. He has been an ordained Lutheran minister for 40 years, having served congregations in Texas and South Carolina.  Bill retired in 2012 as pastor of Reformation Lutheran Church in Columbia, a congregation which he led to become a Welcoming congregation. Bill describes this accomplishment as one of the most rewarding ministries of his career, and working for compassionate treatment of members of the LGBTQ community continues to be a focus of his work in retirement.

Dinner begins at 6:00PM (please RSVP below)
Bill will begin our discussion at 6:30PM
