Cycles of LGBTQ Liberation & Oppression

6:30 PM Program - **Cycles of LGBTQ Liberation & Oppression"

OPENINGS Continues our Hybrid Meetings allowing participation virtually or in Person with this Zoom Presentation by Rev. Jim Mitulski.

Speaker: Rev. Jim Mitulski

This isn’t our first epidemic, and this isn’t the first time our community has faced opposition or setbacks in the Supreme Court, the legislature, faith-based communities or society. We know that the recent decision in Roe v. Wade is a serious setback to reproductive rights, and a harbinger of possible challenges to LGBTQ rights. Covid has also changed our lives forever- and many faith communities are weaker than they were before the epidemic. When we look at what we learned about the importance of community during HIV/AIDS, and all the gains we made in LGBTQ inclusion in our families, in religion, and in society we don’t have to despair. We are equipped for this struggle which may be the greatest we’ve ever faced.

Join us for this conversation about how our history has equipped us for this defining movement, led by a person who has been involved in this struggle for 50 years. Bring to this exciting conversation your best tip for how we can be successful in what lies ahead.

Rev. Jim Mitulski was ordained in 1983 in the Metropolitan COmmunity Churches (MCC), the historically LGBTQ denomination. Now serving in the United Church of Christ. He has served congregations all over the country including 15 years at MCC San Francisco (once dubbed "The Church with AIDS"), and The Cathedral of Hope UCC in Dallas, the largest LGBTQ congregation in the world. He is currently the interim pastor of Peace UCC in Duluth MN and sits on the Minnesota Council for HIV Care and Prevention. He has degrees from Columbia University, Pacific School of Religion, Harvard Divinity School and the Starr King School for the Ministry. He is on the faculty at United Theological Seminary of the Twin Cities .
